When Zip Food Stores came to town in the early '60's, my step-dad's company, Santa Fe Heating and Sheet Metal installed the heating and ventillation systems in about half of the stores. I remember going with my dad after hours to check on his guys work. Dad also did quite a bit of work for Lee Kinnie Construction, "Need a teepee, see Lee", who sponsored Merle Burrow's yellow #2 at Lakeside for several years.

(CARC Archives) What kid wouldn’t want that Quarter Midget coupe?

(CARC Archives) Bob Robertson, 1963. Which one is Bob? Same B.R. that ran Figure 8’s at Englewood?

(CARC Archives) I think that's Bob McDowell on the far right.

(CARC Archives) Someone once told me that the guy on the left was RMMRA Midget historian
Gary Martelon as a pitman. My question is…..did their driver really climb in and out of that
little hole on top of the car?
The picture of the 63 could be in front of the old CARC clubhouse????

The picture of #63 is looking north from the V&C garage driveway. That's 33rd. Ave. behind the car. If it was in the frame Tejon St. would be to the right.

I guess I really ought to read what I put up a little closer. I put everything but the answer. No sir, that isn't the old clubhouse in the background. This building was an old drugstore. I don't get over that way much anymore, but more recently it was a coffee house. If it's not that it's probably a restaurant. That old neighberhood has become real trendy.

In the picture of the #34, that's Ken Kruetzer's #17 to the far left.

Concerning a question about the CARC Clubhouse, the one I remember was on the northwest corner of west 44th Ave. and Tejon. That building was formerly the Onorato Garage, run by Tony Onorato one of the early Chevy six guys. Cars of his that I remember were the numbers 18 and 85 Chevy coupes. A half block west of him was a radiator shop where the #47 of, I believe, Vance Blevins hung out.

Used to be a whole wall full of Lakeside Speedway photos in the old clubhouse. Anyone know where those went?

Biil, The old clubhouse was on 44th and Umatilla, one block west of Tejon. The street address was 2101 W. 44th Ave. As far as the pictures on the walls inside, they were mounted on plywood covering two windows on the south wall. A fire inspector made the club take the window coverings down as an excape hazard in case of a fire, in the mid '70's. I don't know where the photos went, I suppose they were given away. They weren't in the club archives when we cleaned out the clubhouse at the time of sale. Actually there wasn't a heck of a lot left when the building was sold in 1994.

In the picture of the #30 it is Bob Robinson in the plaid shirt second from the right. He is related to the Backman family. There is no connection between him and Odie or Bob Robertson
