I only know of VW powered midgets (speed cars for you guys). The photo you have there is of a Edmunds midget. As for the driveline, it's a direct drive just like an Offy or SESCO, or Chevy II. Standard "in and out box". I'll try to dig up some photo's for you.

Standard old style "in and out box"

Newer Skellinger Engineering Company (SECO) drive line rear end shifter.

Midget drive line.

I'm working on a better copy of this cut-a-way, it's all I had today.

Mitch....thanks for your help...that was well worth the read.....these do pop up on the bay every now and then, but don't think they would be that practical on the street, just a thought.....Oh Mitch....we don't have any Midgets or Sprints here in the UK.....a few have been imported, and if they are old enough, can race in our vintage hill climbs...

bv59,
I beg to differ. Sprint cars in the UK are alive and well and race all over the country and even across the Channel in Europe. A mate of mine, who I met through and was in 1/4 scale some years, now races almost full blown sprint cars, on dirt and tar.
Here's video from a couple of months back. My mate Trevor, is in the white #58.
Google UK sprint cars for more videos. Google images will provide stacks of photos!

Bob....thanks for the info....I didn't know about them, come to think of it,and looking at the spectator stands, not many other people were aware of them either.
I love sprint cars before wings, and am not aware of any races that put on ''vintage '' style sprint or midget races.....when I started my Street Sprint,I could find no info to help here in the UK,and all my inspiration, and help came from the US.I don't think we embraced,or imported the sport like Australia,New Zealand, and our early race cars were not ''pretty''.....
