So, it wasn't a lapped car, it was for position.

Thanks, Dave Russell

Default Re: Jeff Gordon at 5 in an open wheel

I met Jeff at Knoxville Speedway when he was an unknown around there.
Long story short he got some seat time in a local car and the owner let him go after three events. Didn't think he had it. LOL
Have some great pics I took of Jeff in the car posing for me. The car has never been made into diecast and I have never seen a photo of him racing the car.
If I ever find the owner and the car sponsors and they sign a release to post the pics, I will.
This was really his first Winged Sprint ride.
I also delivered Jeffs first Privo bus to him.

Anyway, seeing how some are interested in Jeff here are a couple more young gun card photos.
Both have neat stories behind them.

The first is Jeff at the tender age of 3, with his firsat racing cap on.
His stepfather was friends with major engine builder back then named SAm and Fred Baily, thus the hat.
Anyway, 10 years later they were building engines for Jeffs 1/4 Midgets.

The second is 5 year old Gordon with his first ever trophy for a 4th place finish at Vallejo. Jeff later that year won the Western States Novice Championship at Baylands Quarter Midget Track in Sunnyvale. The car was retired after this race.
