Default JOHN HAFEMEISTER – Retrospective

Another Colorado legend in Figure 8 history is John Hafemeister, who somehow went from racing Go-Karts to taking over John “Crash” Mullins blue #84 ride in the early ‘70’s at Englewood Speedway.

John continued the blue #84 paint scheme throughout a great career which capped off with the 1999 Figure 8 championship at Colorado National Speedway.

John’s son J.D. Hafemeister took over the wheel of the famous blue #84 in 2000 to become rookie of the year.

(Track Shack Photo) This is a great autographed Englewood Speedway trophy shot from
1977 with a funny story attached. It seems that John’s “ex” just happened to be one of
the trophy girls scheduled to go out when John won this race, and she’s obviously being
quite fussy while flagman Don Styes enjoys the moment.

(Photo by Jerry Lee McGuire) When the Figure 8 division started up again in at Colorado
National Speedway in 1989 after a 10 year hiatus, John was one of many veterans of the
sport that continued their careers. Here’s John (red suit) and crew in 1990.

to his fans, he gave me the driver’s door to this Figure Eighter and used to show up at a
lot of the gigs my band was playing. My Mom and I had been fans of his since his rookie year.

action at Colorado National.

(Photo by Joe Starr) A great autographed pic of John’s Figure 8 that he drove to the 1999
championship at Colorado National. That’s quite a ride from the days of the ’54 Fords at
Englewood Speedway.

R.I.P. – J.D. Hafemeister & the blue #84.
